Here is a large specimen of Aphelecrinus oweni from the Mississippian of Alabama. This type of inadunate crinoid has a bowl-shaped cup with long, somewhat thin, multi-branching, uniserial arms which are beautifully displayed on this specimen. The fine pinnulation of the arms is easily seen and a nice, round, articulated stem is still tightly attached. The 3-dimensional crinoid has very nice color and contrast and is well centered on the plate of limestone that contains many bryozoans. This is a very fine example of a large Aphelecrinus from the Bangor Limestone.
