Here is an attractive plate of echinoderms from the Mississippian of Missouri. There are three different crinoids and two blastoids on the slab. On the left side of the plate is a fine example of Abatocrinus subaequalis. A specimen of Synbathocrinus sp. is located in the very center of the slab. On the right side of the plate is a very robust Platycrinites sp. These three crinoids are all very inflated and exhibit fine detail. The plate structure is wonderfully displayed and the stem and arm attachment points are easily seen. Two specimens (middle top and middle bottom) of Cryptoblastus melo are also present on the piece. These blastoids are very 3-dimensionally preserved and the thin ambulacra are clearly defined. The off-white color of the echinoderms contrasts beautifully with the orangish-brown matrix. They are nicely positioned on the rectangular plate of limestone that is chock full of other crinoid fragments. This is a very displayable example of echinoderms from the Lower Burlington Formation.
