Here is a spectacular crinoid that we recently obtained from an old collection. This is a HUGE example of Cyathocrinites brevisacculus from the Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This is one of the few specimens of this crinoid that we have ever seen. This crinoid is EXTREMELY 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The large, inflated cup has very good plate structure and the long, multi-branching, uniserial arms are unbelievably complete to the very tips. This is, perhaps, the only specimen that we have seen of this unusual crinoid that has had the arms fully intact. A touch of stem is still tightly attached to the cup. There is also one arm of a large starfish, Onychaster flexilis, exposed between the arms near the cup of the crinoid. The crinoid has great color and contrast and is perfectly centered on the solid, rectangular plate of siltstone. This is an outstanding example of this rare crinoid that would be a welcome addition to anyone's collection.
