Here is an attractive plate with two different echinoderms from the Mississippian of Missouri. In the center of the plate is a fantastic specimen of Dorycrinus unicornis. This species of crinoid has one long spine extending straight up from the tegmen. The free-standing spine is beautifully displayed on this huge (for the type), extremely 3-dimensional specimen. The large nodose plates of the crinoid are clearly defined and the arm attachment points are easily seen. An excellent Cryptoblastus melo is situated above and slightly to the right of the Dorycrinus. This melon-shaped blastoid is totally inflated and exhibits great detail. The thin ambulacra are quite evident and the granulose texture of the plates is intact. The off-white color of the fossils contrasts wonderfully with the orangish-brown matrix. The echinoderms are nicely positioned on the semi-rectangular plate of limestone that is loaded with other echinoderm fragments. This is a very aesthetic association plate of two different echinoderms from the Lower Burlington Formation.
