Here is a wonderful crinoid from Indiana. This is Cyathocrinites multibrachiatus from the Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville. This crinoid is quite inflated and exhibits fine detail. The large, somewhat cone-shaped cup displays great plate structure. The multi-branching, uniserial arms are complete to the very tips. An extremely long, articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup. The cream-colored crinoid contrasts well with the gray matrix. The fossil is beautifully centered on the never-been-broken, rectangular plate of siltstone. This is an excellent example of Cyathocrinites multibrachiatus from one of the most famous crinoid sites in the world.
