Here is a large Carabocrinus sp. from the Ordovician of Canada. This type of crinoid has a hefty cup with relatively few, huge plates. The long, slender arms are uniserial in nature and branch many times. This specimen is quite inflated and exhibits fine detail. The plate structure is clearly defined and and a short section of the stem is still attached to the cup. The cream-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the large rectangular plate that also contains several bryozoans. This is a great example of this Canadian camerate crinoid.
