Here is a fantastic specimen from the famous Mississippian layers of Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are two outstanding crinoids on this plate. On the left side of the slab is a fine example of Scytalocrinus disparilis. This type of inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and lengthy, uniserial arms with many pinnules. This specimen exhibits these features in fine fashion. The arms are unusually complete to the very tips. A long stem is still tightly attached to the cup. On the right side of the plate is a beautiful Platycrinites saffordi. This camerate crinoid has a cup composed of highly nodose plates. The branching, biserial arms display the pinnules wonderfully on this specimen. A large gastropod is tightly adhered to the side of the cup. This gastropod lived off the excrement from the crinoid. A gorgous, highly-twisted stem (indicative of the genus) is still attached to this crinoid and aesthetically curved on the plate. The 3-dimensional crinoids have great color and contrast. They are well positioned on the somewhat rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a spectacular crinoid plate from Indiana.
