Here is a very pretty crinoid and blastoid association piece. This specimen is from the Mississippian of Missouri. On the left side of the plate is a large example of Uperocrinus pyriformis, a camerate crinoid. This type of crinoid has a long, smooth-plated cup and a high tegmen composed of protuberant plates. A superb example of Globoblastus norwoodi, a blastoid, is on the right side of the slab. This melon-shaped blastoid exposes the spiracles in nice fashion. Both echinoderms are extremely inflated and exhibit great detail. The plate structure of the echinoderms is wonderfully defined. The whitish color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the orangish matrix. They are well centered on the semi-rectangular plate of limestone. This is a very nice specimen of two different echinoderms on the same plate.
