Here is a rare crinoid that we recently obtained from a major echinoderm collection. This is Aulocrinus bellus from the famous Mississippian beds near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This crinoid crown has been extracted from the matrix, and meticulously cleaned on all sides, so that it can be viewed from all angles. It is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits excellent detail. The heavily-sculpted plates of the bowl-shaped cup are beautifully defined and the stout, uniserial arms are unusually complete and display wonderful pinnulation. Perhaps the most interesting feature of this crinoid is the split anal tube that is characteristic of this species. Both ends of the anal tubes are well shown - they protrude between the arms on both sides. A touch of the pentagonal stem is still attached to the cup. This is a very interesting presentation of this unusual crinoid.
