Here is a fantastic crinoid that we recently obtained from an old German collection. This is Eutaxocrinus sp. from the famous Devonian slate of Bundenbach, Germany. As many people know, the quarries in this area are now closed. The only way to obtain fossils from this classic site is through the dispersal of old collections. This rare, flexible crinoid is "as good as it gets". The plate structure of the cup is beautifully defined and the branching arms are complete to the tips. An EXTREMELY LONG stem is tightly attached to the crinoid crown. The individual segments of the stem are easily seen - and many of the tiny cirri are even displayed. The fossil has been preserved by iron pyrite or "fool's gold". The "golden" crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the dark matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the LARGE (5.5" X 9.8") plate of roofing slate. This is a breathtaking example of this unusual flexible crinoid from a site that is no longer producing.
