Here is a very artistic plate of two different crinoids from the Mississippian beds near Crawfordsville, Indiana. The crinoid on the left side of the plate is Onychocrinus ulrichi, a flexible crinoid. This sea lily has all five arms intact which is highly unusual. The inadunate crinoid on the right side of the slab is a very pretty specimen of Histocrinus coreyi. This crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup with heavy arms that bear short, stout pinnules. A section of stem is still atttached to this crinoid. The fossils are very 3-dimensional and exhibit excellent detail. The plate structure of the echinoderms is wonderfully defined. They have good color and contrast and are well presented on the somewhat rounded plate of siltstone. This is a very engaging specimen of two different crinoids from the Mississippian.
