Here is a very pretty crinoid. This is Agaricocrinus americanus from the Mississippian of Indiana. This type of camerate crinoid has a bulbous-plated cup that is slightly concave at the bottom with heavy, biserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen displays both of these features extremely well - even the fine pinnules of the stout arms are easily seen. A considerable length of articulated stem is still attached to the crown of the crinoid. The fossil has beautiful color and contrasts nicely with the tannish matrix. It is well presented on the semi-rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very appealing specimen of Agaricocrinus from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
