Here is a nice specimen of an Ordovician crinoid. This is Archaeocrinus sp. from the Bobcaygeon Formation of Canada. The specimen is somewhat 3-dimensional and reveals fine plate structure and detail. The crinoid exhibits a calyx composed of many small plates. Many of the "feathery" arms of the crinoid are still attached. The uniserial arms display the delicate pinnules. The crinoid crown has a very long articulated stem. The creamish-colored crinoid contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The fossil is well centered on a somewhat rectangular block of limestone. This is a very displayable specimen of Archaeocrinus from the Ordovician.
