Here is a very attractive crinoid. This is Agaricocrinus americanus from the Mississippian of Indiana. This ancient "sea lily" is very 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. This large crinoid has extremely long, stout arms that are biserial in nature. This specimen displays the arms in beautiful fashion - they are uncommonly complete to the very tips and exhibit beautiful pinnulation. The fossil has outstanding color - the purplish crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the tan matrix. It is nicely positioned on the large, rounded plate of siltstone. This is a very aesthetic example of this unusual species of Agaricocrinus from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
