Here is an excellent plate of Ordovician crinoids. These ancient "sea lilies" are Glyptocrinus decadactylus from Kentucky. There are two exquisite crinoids on the plate along with a robust bryozoan colony. The echinoderms are very 3-dimensional and exhibit gorgeous detail. These large crinoids have a high, conical cup comprised of highly ornamented, stellate plates. The thin, uniserial arms are splayed and show the feathery pinnules in breathtaking fashion. The crinoid on the right side of the plate displays a long, articulated stem that aesthetically curls around and around at the distal end. The cream-colored fossils contrast wonderfully with the gray matrix. They are well presented on the natural plate of rock. This is a great display plate of these unusual Ordovician crinoids.
