Here is an interesting Uperocrinus pyriformis from the Mississippian of Illinois. This type of crinoid has a long, smooth-plated cup and a tegmen composed of numerous, nodose plates. This 3-dimensional crinoid has the stem preserved which is extremely unusual for crinoids from the Burlington Formation. The off-white color of the crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the orangish-brown matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of limestone that also contains numerous crinoid fragments. This is a very unique example of Uperocrinus from the Upper Burlington Limestone.
