Here is an uncommon crinoid from the Mississippian beds near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This is a specimen of Synbathocrinus sp., a very simple inadunate crinoid. This particular genus of crinoid is characterized by a small cone-shaped cup with only five, long, unbranching, uniserial arms. This crinoid is 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail - the plate structure is clearly defined. The almost white crinoid contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The fossil is well positioned on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a very good example of this scarce crinoid from the Edwardsville Formation.
