Here is an excellent example of Dichocrinus multiplex from the Mississippian of Iowa. This specimen was recently acquired from an old collection. This classic location has been closed to collecting for a number of years. This camerate crinoid has a large, urn-shaped cup and uniserial arms that branch only once. The detail of this crinoid is just superb. The plate structure of the inflated cup is clearly defined and the feathery arms display the pinnulation with incredible detail. An extremely long stem, complete with numerous cirri, is still tightly attached to the cup. The fossil has great color and contrast and is nicely presented on the plate. This is an extremely attractive Dichocrinus from a famous Midwestern crinoid deposit.
