Here is an extremely rare crinoid plate that we acquired in an old collection. This specimen was found many, many years ago - this site has been closed to collecting for a long time. This is Isocrinus oregonensis from the Oligocene of Oregon! Tertiary crinoids with stem are highly unusual and are found in only a few places in the world. There are actually two specimens of Isocrinus preserved on this slab. These crinoids are wonderfully replaced by calcite - not the typical mold and cast preservation that is usually seen at this location. The long pentagonal stems of the crinoids display the multitude of cirri in beautiful fashion. The uniserial arms of this type of crinoid have extremely long, slender pinnules which are easily seen in this specimen. The crinoids have excellent color and contrast. They are well presented on the large, natural plate of matrix in which they were found. This is a very displayable plate of Tertiary crinoids. Very few echinoderm collectors have ever seen, let alone own, a specimen of these unusual Oligocene crinoids.
