This is a nice crinoid holdfast from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry, where this specimen was found, is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This specimen is quite large and completely covers the matrix. The holdfast is very 3-dimensional. It exhibits nice detail. The holdfast branches and branches and branches. The branching seems to go on forever, right down to the very tiny tips. The fossil is well centered on a large, rounded plate of matrix. This is a fine specimen of a crinoid holdfast.
