This is, perhaps, the most spectacular crinoid from the Burlington Formation that we have ever seen. Crinoid CROWNS are extremely rare in the Burlington Formation. This crown is HUGE. This specimen is a Synbathocrinus sp. that is 7.5 inches long. A "large" crown of this genus is half that size. The crinoid is very 3-dimensional and displays great plate structure. The long uniserial arms seem to go on forever. Attached to the cup is 3.4 inches of stem. This crinoid has been in the DeRosear Collection since 1988. This is probably the largest Synbathocrinus ever found. This is a phenomenal specimen.
