This is the best single specimen of Aulocrinus bellus we have ever seen. This specimen has no restoration or repair. This crinoid is from the world-famous site at Crawfordsville, Indiana. The crinoid crown is immaculate. Usually, this species has one or more arms that are broken off. The arms on this specimen are complete to the very tips. The fine pinnules of the arms are exposed. Perhaps the most interesting feature of this crinoid is the split anal tube. This specimen was prepared so that both anal tubes are prominently displayed. The heavily sculpted plates of the cup are readily apparent. This crinoid has a long pentagonal stem attached. The stem displays some of the thin cirri. The crinoid is very 3-dimensional. It has good color and great contrast. It is well centered on a rectangular block of matrix. This crinoid has been in the DeRosear Collection for many years. This is a fabulous specimen of this rare species of crinoid.
