This is a gorgeous specimen of an unusual crinoid from Indiana. This is Eretmocrinus sp. from the Crawfordsville area. Doug acquired this specimen April 19, 1987, and it has been in his collection ever since. This genus of crinoid is characterized by the way the arms expand in width near the top. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and the detail is excellent. The plate structure of the cup is great. The finely pinnulated arms are "textbook" for this genus. The crinoid has a nice length of stem attached. The crinoid has great color and contrast. It is well centered on a rounded block of matrix. The specimen has been prepared in high relief. This is a very aesthetic specimen of a rare crinoid.
