This is an extremely rare crinoid from the Lower Burlington Limestone of Missouri. This is an excellent specimen of Dorycrinus unispinus. This crinoid should not be confused with the more common Dorycrinus unicornis, which has a much shorter spine. In 26 years of collecting the Burlington Formation, we have only found ONE specimen of this species. We have seen only three specimens of this species, EVER. This crinoid is totally 3-dimensional. The plate structure is great. The anal opening is easy to see. The off-white color of the crinoid contrasts nicely with the orangish-brown matrix. It is well positioned in the center of a natural slab of limestone. This is a great specimen of an unbelievably rare crinoid from the Lower Burlington Formation.
