This is an excellent specimen of Agaricocrinus americanus from Crawfordsville, Indiana. This particular species is larger and has longer arms than the more common Agaricocrinus splendens. This crinoid has excellent color and is very 3-dimensional. The stout arms display the pinnules very nicely. The specimen shows one regenerated arm. Associated with this specimen is a starfish, Onychaster flexilis. The dark gray arms are wrapping themselves around the calyx of the Agaricocrinus. There is even one starfish arm tip extending off to the left near the top of the crinoid. Also on the piece is a very detailed Pachylocrinus sp. with stem. All of this is well centered on a rectangular block of matrix. This particular piece was prepared by Doug in 1988 and has been in his collection ever since. This is a very fine specimen of this elusive species of Agaricocrinus associated with a starfish.
