This is an excellent example of Arthroacantha from an unusual location. This specimen is from the Arkona Shale of Canada. Usually, specimens from the Arkona site are very fragile due to the soft shale matrix. However, a number of years ago, a very small pocket of these crinoids was found on a harder, more limey substrate. This specimen has been in the DeROSEAR COLLECTION for the last 15 years. The specimen is very 3-dimensional and well centered on the somewhat rounded matrix plate. The fossil has good color and great contrast with the matrix. The plate structure of the inflated cup is wonderful. The crown has the arms splayed showing the delicate pinnules. The specimen even has a touch of stem attached to the calyx. This is one of the best Arthroacantha we have ever seen from this site.
