Here is an extremely aesthetic plate of Ordovician crinoids. These are Glyptocrinus decadactylus from Kentucky. There are six nice examples of this crinoid on the slab. This type of camerate crinoid has a cup composed of numerous stellate plates and long, thin arms. The crinoids on this specimen have excellent detail. The plate structure is beautifully defined. The splayed, "feathery" arms exhibit the tiny pinnules in remarkable fashion. Several of the crinoids still have the stem tightly attached. The cream-colored crinoids contrast wonderfully with the gray matrix. They are nicely positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a very attractive plate of crinoids from the Ordovician.
