This is a beautiful crinoid fossil. It is a large Macrocrinus mundulus from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of Camerate crinoid has a large cup composed of many plates and biserial arms that contain many pinnules - these pinnules are easily seen on this specimen. The crinoid is nicely inflated and exhibits extremely fine detail - the plate structure of the cup is quite evident, and the arms are easily seen. A LONG, articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid, and the anal tube can be seen extending out past the tips of the arms. The ancient sea lily displays beautiful color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the large, oval plate of siltstone. This is a top quality example of this classic crinoid, a perfect collection piece.

A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
