Name:
Platycrinites hemisphericus
Age: Mississippian
Formation: Edwardsville Formation
Location: Crawfordsville, Indiana
Size: Crinoid is 3.2'' long including stem
Price: SOLD
This is a very attractive crinoid. It is a Platycrinites hemisphericus from the famous Mississippian deposits near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of camerate crinoid has a cup composed of large, ornamented plates and heavily pinnulated, biserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen exhibits these features in fine fashion. The plate structure of the crinoid is clearly defined, and the long arms are beautifully displayed. The twisted stem (indicative of the genus) is still tightly attached to the base of the cup. The fossil has been prepared in high relief and appears to be ''floating'' above the matrix. The crinoid has great color and contrast and is wonderfully centered on the natural plate of siltstone. This is an excellent specimen of Platycrinites hemisphericus.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
